We had planned to leave as early as possible, which we did considering we were not yet experienced on the roaders. Getting our two seconds tent back into travel format was the least of our problems after Coosje found out how to do it. We then had to get the car as close as possible to the tent (we couldn’t leave it at the camp site) and get all of our stuff back into it. Exactly because we had to leave it out on the street we wanted to have our stuff with us and besides we had to repack it, which took us two hours, because now we had to place Centomila somewhere. Lots of walking up and down the stairs carrying stuff which subsequently meant sweating because it is summer and we’re in Italy (and we had just showered… Lesson: first pack the car and then shower) and lots of trying to use every angle that was not filled we managed to pack it so at least somebody would have a place to sit. However nobody was really comfortable.
Chiara went to check out while Coosje did some last small car stuff like getting Belgian Bram (our other navigator besides Gelsomina) in order. As faiths wants it, even that didn’t go completely smooth. The paying and all that did but when the woman asked for the shower chip Chiara had no idea where that was and told her they’d pass when they’d drive out of there. Back at the car, Coosje had no idea either and after contemplating for a long time (one minute) we decided to just go and leave it at that. No way we were going to look for the thing in the car (on arrival in Paestum we would find it hidden somewhere though). We decided we’d call the camp site and ask if we would be able to send it to them and then pay the big sum of 3 euros for our showers via bank transfer. We still haven’t done that.
We quickly went to pick up Centomila and went on our merry and long drive to Paestum during which nothing special happened besides seeing some more of Italy and some avventuriere laughing their asses off as usual because that’s our style. After the long drive, we arrived in Paestum around 7pm and found Centomila’s hotel first and then went to look for our campsite which was not found by Bram, and Gelsomina’s battery was dead (of course she can get her much needed energy otherwise but for some reason or the other we couldn’t find the cable). After a bit of searching we found Villagio Nettuno, our camp site and this time we had a place for our tent where we could’ve put 3 more if we had wanted to and our car was there also. No seaside view but a place under pine trees providing much needed shadow. We set the tent up and this time left everything in the car because we kind of had a feeling we didn’t want to put it all back in again after 2 days. We decided to go and take a well-deserved shower and headed for the bathroom where it turned out (as one would imagine) that we needed yet again something to get the shower working, coins this time. There was a sign “docce fredde” and brave as we are we headed for those and took cold showers. Not really bad because it was hot and humid but as common sense would tell you, getting out of there felt like a shower. However, we were clean…which IS a very relative word by the way.

All done we decided to walk around the exciting small town of Paestum where for some reason or the other people didn’t look into our eyes but somewhat lower (as would turn out, not only the local guys but also police and security men as we noticed the next day). We walked around a bit and had a look which quickly finished because this part of town basically consisted of one street with several hotels, restaurants and bars. Chiara was really smart at some point while we were waiting for Centomila and taking some more pictures: she deleted every picture and video we had made so far. This, then, is the reason we don’t as many pictures as we had hoped because we now only had Coosje’s cell phone pics for day 1-3.

We went to have dinner at “La taverna degli Artisti” which has really good pizza so if you ever find yourself in Paestum try it out. We had beer and pizza and fun. We decided to make it a relatively early night as we would have our second concert the next day and picked up one more beer for on the road and as Centomila headed back for her hotel room we walked back to our camp site. As it was close to sea, we decided it was a nice idea to have a short walk on the beach while we finished our beers. However, we didn’t want to disturb the couples making out and it was really scary because there were cars driving around slowly, of which one stopped next to us and whispered something we didn’t understand. So we decided to just head to our tent and we sat outside for a while. This time we didn’t leave our tent open because there were a lot of bugs crawling around the tent so no fresh breeze waking us up the next morning.
